While you won’t find pristine beaches near Metro Manila, it’s the perfect place for the city-goer. Enjoy fine dining in BGC (Bonifacio Global City aka ‘The Fort’), party in/around Burgos Street in Makati (Manila’s former red light district) or even gamble at Solaire, Sofitel or the City of Dreams – Manila’s version of Las Vegas Strip. Whatever you enjoy doing when the sun goes down, Metro Manila offers it all.
One thing you MUST do when visiting the Makati area is visit A-Venue, Poblacion, Burgos & Makati Street. While the flashing neon lights and gritty streets may give any tourist the wrong impression, the area has actually re-invented itself from the former Red Light District to a place where art meets food & nightlife.
Hit A-Venue for Live Music, Food & Nightlife
From the balcony of our hotel at the A-Venue, we had the perfect view of all the area had to offer – a mall to the left and right (A-Venue Mall & Century City Mall), the A-Venue Concert Tent, an endless amount of restaurants / videoke bars & night clubs. Like, New York, the city never sleeps. If you have a hotel anywhere in the vicinity of the main drag (Makati Street), expect loud music.
One of our favorite things to do in Makati was to listen to live music under the A-Venue Concert Tent. Where else can you enjoy a beer for 50ph (.99 US), food for 150ph ($3 US) & FREE live music?
Quite the selection of beers, all for less than $1.50 US
Visit Poblacion Street for Authentic Food, Drinks & Rooftops!
Don’t hit Makati without visiting Poblacion Street. It’s a foodie & rooftop go-ers paradise.
A visit to Poblacion Street would not be complete without a stop at Z Hostel. What was once a hostel is now a trendy spot with a killer rooftop. It’s the perfect place to sip on cocktails, take in the city views, listen to music by local djs and meet other travelers & locals.
The Z Hostel is a cashless establishment. You will need to register at the front desk and they will give you a microchip wristband. You simply load the amount you want onto your wristband for the night.
Dine at Alamat for Authentic Filipino Drinks and Dishes
If you are bold, we highly recommend hitting up Alamat on Poblacion Street. Ever tried ‘Chicken Ass’? Well, you can find it here. While I chose not partake in most of the dining, Trevor was pretty bold and admitted that everything was quite tasty – minus the ‘Chicken Ass’.
Poblacion Street is known for it’s artistic flair.
Fun Tip: While you are dining at night, look out toward the street, you may see a lot of flying bats! Yes, eeek.
We just loved their authentic and unique concoctions
Walk Down Burgos Street – Makati’s Old Red Light District
Burgos Street was, at a time, Manila’s Red Light District. While the area had a reputation for being ‘busy’ (ahem), it is now a place where everyone can enjoy drinks, fun nightlife & even some eclectic activities. Ever watched little people boxing? Yes, you can find it here.
The Ring Side Bar offered drinks & ‘little’ entertainment. Be sure to leave a ‘big’ tip, these guys work hard to keep you smiling.
Take in City Views at the City Garden Hotel Rooftop
Head down Makati Street to find swanky hotels – most of them have immaculate rooftops.
A visit to the Philippines would not be complete without experiencing the nightlife in Metro Manila. Know of any cool spots we should hit up? Let us know in the comment section below…
