After spending a few days in Cabuyao Laguna, Melody’s cousin recommended a visit to Isdaan Floating Restaurant. She described it as a place with Thailand feels and great food. Since it was nearby, we decided to bring the family along for a day of photo taking and dining the Filipino way, ‘Kamayan Style’. The restaurant is known for their ‘Boodle Fight’ and we’d highly recommend it.
We arrived a little after 1pm to avoid the afternoon rush and were greeted by a Madagascar looking statue. We took a few photos, and proceeded to enter the park. The park is FREE to enter as long as you are dining inside. (Note: Dining prices are quite steep. Be sure to call ahead if you need to budget for your group. We’d recommend making reservations. The wait time is long and they do get busy during the weekends and holidays. ).
(Note: This is definitely a place you want to bring your cameras. It’s a colorful park filled with gigantic Thailand/Bali looking statues and huts.)
The Boodle Fight
Isdaan is known for its Boodle Fight (aka Kamayan). If you enjoy a feast and an authentic experience, you’ll definitely want to partake in this tradition. What is a Boodle Fight? It’s an old Philippine military academy tradition where cadets would gather around a long table full of food and rice spread over banana leaves and eaten with bare hands. For the Filipinos, the Boodle Fight symbolizes camaraderie.
We arrived without a reservation but were still seated in a large bamboo hut on the water. We ordered everything under the sun – Fish, Chicken, Lumpia (Egg rolls), Beef Soup, Duck Eggs, Vegetables and Buko Juice (Coconut Water). The total cost was around $140 US or 7,000php for a group of 10.
Notice, there are no individual plates or utensils? While you can ask for them, we’d recommend trying to eat the Boodle Fight way. It’s a fun Filipino experience. (Note: There are sinks near every hut to wash your hands).
More Photos from Isdaan Theme Park
One of the things we loved about the Isdaan were the bright colors, the large statues and the river that wrapped around the park. There are small boats that will take you on a ride for a nominal fee. For entertainment, enjoy performances by magicians, acrobats, singers, and dancers. You may even find famous personalities in statue form (see below).
To get the BEST photos at Isdaan, make sure they are taken from a distance. The statues are quite large and you’ll definitely want to get them in the picture.
Lucy even got to join us 🙂
All in all, we really enjoyed our experience at Isdaan Floating Restaurant. It’s the perfect place for a family outing. We promise the kiddos will love it!
