Our Top Airbnb Search Tips
Airbnb has completely changed the way I travel for good. Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to business trips or quick getaways, it’s still fun to book at swanky hotels. When traveling abroad, Airbnb is a great option if you want a truly authentic experience. Airbnb offers rentals in the heart of almost every travel destination. Not only that, most of the time, Airbnb offers larger spaces & better rates than many hotels. (Tip: If you are traveling to Europe, most hotels will NOT allow you more than 2 people a room. Airbnb is a great way to travel with a large group & save money).
When my mother and I traveled to Barcelona, we found a quaint Spanish-like apartment located in the center of the city. (You can find the listing here). Our unit was on the second floor of an older building in El Gotico with the best little terrace that overlooked a Cobble Stone street filled with restaurants & stores. Not to mention, we were only steps away from La Rambla Street where all the fun was happening. Here’s the kicker. We booked our unit for only $52.00 a night or $195 total for 3 days with taxes, fees & cleaning fee.
But don’t let price or photos fool you when booking. Before you hit that confirm button, you’ll want to check out our Airbnb search tips below.

When traveling to a destination you’ve never been, it helps to have an idea of the best neighborhoods to stay in. A quick search on google will help you get an idea of where you want to be. You’ll want to take into account safety, accessibility to public transportation, & distance to the areas you plan on visiting during your trip.
(Our Airbnb rental was only steps away from La Rambla Street. We enjoyed daily Tapas & Sangrias)
Choose your housing type:
Airbnb rentals come in 3 different ways:
- Entire Home: Essentially, the home is all yours!
- Private Room: You’ll be renting a room in someone’s home. The common areas are shared with the homeowners &/or other renters.
- Shared Space: You’ll be crashing on a sofa or bed in a shared space. This offers less privacy but usually comes at a more affordable price.
If sharing a space with a stranger is not your cup of tea, you may want to rent a home to yourself. Of course, the prices are typically more affordable when renting a room or sharing a space.
Has it got everything you need?

Read the Guest Reviews + Read the Hosts Reviews
When it comes to researching Airbnb listings, looking at reviews is essential. You might find the pictures look amazing but what if you learned your AirBnB sat right above a club that didn’t close til’ 4am. Details like this get left out of the listing descriptions all the time. It helps to read reviews to catch those little details.
We are big advocates of AirBnB. If you want to save money & experience living in a home as the locals do, than this is for you! Thanks for reading & please let us know if you have an Airbnb Tips of your own!
